Proposed Amalgamation

You might be aware that the governing bodies of the Infant and Junior Schools have been working together for the last few months to consider the best way forward for the schools once Mrs Claydon moves on to another position at the end of the school year. After much consideration the governing bodies and the County Council have agreed to consult with parents and local community about the possibility of 'amalgamating' the schools to form a new primary school. The consultation document below explains more about the reasons for the amalgamation and sets out the processes that we will need to go through. The letter below explains how you can comment on the proposal and has details of the public meetings that will take place on 5th July.

The consultation process will run from Monday 19th June 2017, until Friday 14th July 2017.

At Brightlingsea Junior School we are introducing the Thrive Approach. Every child needs to feel valued, involved and appreciated. We know more now than ever before about what helps to develop healthy curious minds and happy, confident and creative children. If children have been emotionally thrown off track, either temporarily or over longer periods, Thrive helps us understand the needs being signalled by their behaviour and gives us targeted strategies and activities to help them re-engage.Visit the Thrive Approach website to find out more https://www.thriveapproach.com/

The theme of Anti-Bullying Week 2016 is 'Power for Good'. Parents and carers have a vital role in supporting their child with issues relating to bullying, and working with schools to prevent and respond to bullying.

How you can use your power for good as a parent - advice from the Anti-Bullying Alliance charity:

  • Know the signs that a child might be experiencing bullying. Consider how you would help and who you could turn to for advice.  For help with this accesTop tips for parents and children  (we have saved a copy of this below along with 'top tips for children and e-safety advice for parents).
  • Make sure your child knows they can talk to you if they have any worries or concerns.
  • Help them to understand the difference between falling out with friends, being a bit mean and signs that they might be experiencing bullying.  Bullying is persistent, there’s an intent to cause harm and there’s an abuse of power.
  • Support your child to grow in confidence, to make friends in a variety of settings and to take part in activities that build their self esteem.  Talk about how they might respond if someone calls them names or tries to hurt them. What could they say back? Who could they go to for help depending on the situation?
  • Make sure you’re a good role model. Little eyes are always watching us. How we manage conflict in our relationships and how we treat other people has a big impact on our children.
