22 Jan 2015 - 'Dark Shadows' - our Bully Beat video

Recently at Brightlingsea Junior School we have introduced a new programme ‘PACS’ (Positive Assertive Confidence Skills) and a number of our pupils have already been trained in the PACS principles.

PACS is an exciting 6 week early intervention programme that is delivered by trainers from Essex County Council in partnership with school staff. It is funded by the Big Lottery Fund Realising Ambition Programme and managed by the charity Kidscape.

PACS is aimed at pupils in years 5 and 6. Working in small groups of a maximum of twelve, pupils are challenged to look at the impact their behaviour has on others and to look at alternative ways they could respond to difficult situations. PACS can help support anti-bullying in school as pupils will have increased confidence to report bullying and increased assertiveness in relation to saying no to bullying and getting help for those affected.

On Friday 7th November 2014 our existing PACS groups worked with a song writing charity to write an anti-bullying rap which has now been uploaded to YouTube. Please click on the link below to watch our video. We were very excited to be one of only 5 schools in Essex chosen to take part in this BullyBeat project and all of the lyrics for our rap ‘Dark Shadow’ were generated exclusively by our pupils.

We are very pleased with the positive impact PACS is already beginning to have in our school.
